This exchange just took place on the Senate floor:

Senator Vitter: (11:04 AM)

  • Spoke on H.Con.Res. 36, a resolution prohibiting federal funding for Planned Parenthood.
    • SUMMARY “In addition, Mr. Chairman, I’m very concerned about what this budget deal continues to fund in terms of policy, in terms of impact on Americans’ lives, and the clearest example of that for me is the continuing funding of Planned Parenthood. I just believe it’s morally wrong to end an innocent human life. And I also believe it’s morally reprehensible to take tax dollars of millions of pro-life Americans in order to fund organizations that do just that. Americans shouldn’t be forced to subsidize abortions, much less fund our nation’s largest abortion provider, and that’s what Planned Parenthood is, pure and simple.”

Senator Boxer: (11:17 AM)

  • Responded.
    • SUMMARY “I don’t know what he’s thinking, but let me reiterate, Planned Parenthood is a non-profit organization. He says they make a profit. You can say anything. It doesn’t make it true. And I think it’s interesting that in the 1960’s and 1970’s, Planned Parenthood, which has become the prime target of the right-wing Republicans, drew the support of prominent members of the GOP. Richard Nixon signed family planning legislation that authorized federal funding for groups like Planned Parenthood… Now, it’s astounding how the right wing of the Republican Party has walked so far away from their most revered leaders, but that’s their choice. But it is also our choice as to whether we’re going to stand here and take it or come here and rebut what they’re saying. So count me in.”

First off – abortion giant Planned Parenthood, while claiming to be a non-profit, regularly make a profit every year. They receives over $336 million in combined federal, state and local government grants and contracts, and yet had an “excess of revenue over expenses” of almost $112 million in 2006 , $85 million in 2007 and $106 million in 2008. Note: According to a 2010 GAO report federal taxpayer funding totals an average of just under $100 million per year.)

Sen. Boxer's hero, Richard Nixon

As for former support from Republicans like Richard Nixon (whom, considering how his presidency ended it is amusing to see Democrats saying more people should emulate him).  Yes, Planend Parenthood used to have loads of support from pro-abortion Republicans – until that party, as well as most of the rest of the nation, started becoming more pro-life and waking up to the fact Planned Parenthood is mostly a population control organization (as it admits in its 990s) that tries to reach its goal by killing future generations.
